Advice from someone who isn't selling you software.

We take no commission from any vendor, which means we can tell you that the tool you were pitched is wrong for you, or that the thing you want automated isn't worth automating. A day of that is usually worth more than a year of the alternative.

Three conversations, over and over

You're probably here for one of these.

Small businesses hire us for one of three reasons, and the honest answer to each is different every time. Here's roughly how we'd approach yours.

“Everyone says we should be using AI. Should we?”

Sometimes yes, often in one narrow place, occasionally not at all. What you almost never need is the thing that was pitched to you at a networking event. We will look at your actual work and give you a straight answer, including if the answer is “not yet, and here is what would need to change first”.

“We are drowning in admin and I do not know where to start.”

This is the most common one, and it is nearly always solvable. The trick is picking the right first thing — one visible win that buys you the goodwill to do the next three. Start with the hardest problem and everyone loses faith by week six.

“We have been quoted £40,000. Is that reasonable?”

Sometimes it is. Often it is a system with far more in it than you will ever use, sold by someone paid on licence volume. We will read the proposal, tell you which parts you genuinely need, and give you the questions to put back to them. This one usually pays for itself before lunch.

What £650 buys

A consultancy day, hour by hour.

No discovery phase, no maturity assessment, no slide deck with a pyramid on it. One day on site, and a written plan in your inbox within two working days.

  1. 09:00

    We watch you work

Not a workshop with sticky notes. We sit with whoever actually does the job and follow one real piece of work from arriving to finished, writing down every place it stops and waits.

  2. 11:30

    We count the boring bits

How many times a week, how many minutes each, who does it, and what happens when they are on holiday. Most businesses have never added this up. The number is usually a shock.

  3. 13:30

We rank them by nuisance and cost

Some of it is a five-minute automation. Some of it is a six-month project you should never start. Some of it is one badly-worded email template that has been costing you an hour a day since 2021.

  4. 15:30

We tell you the order to do them in

Including the ones we would not touch, and why. If the top item is something you can do yourself next Tuesday without paying us anything else, that is what we will say.

What lands in your inbox

Five things, and none of them is a strategy deck.

  • A written list of every repeated task we found, with a time cost against each
  • A ranked plan: do now, do next, do never — with the reasoning for each
  • Rough costs and timescales for the top three, whoever ends up doing them
  • Where a tool would help, two or three named options and what each is bad at
  • The specific questions to ask any supplier who quotes you for the work

It's yours. Take it to another supplier if you'd rather — several clients have, and we've recommended it when someone else was better placed. If you'd like us to build the top item instead, that's usually an agent or a website, and we'll quote it separately at our normal prices. No consultancy markup, no bundling it in where you can't see it.

The conflict-of-interest bit

We don't resell anything, so we don't need you to buy anything.

A large share of “independent” technology advice in the UK is paid for by the vendor at the other end. Nothing illegal about it, and it's not always bad advice — but it does explain why the recommendation is so often a platform with a five-year licence on it.

We hold no partner status, take no referral fees and have no reseller agreements with anyone. When we name a tool it's because it fits, and we'll tell you what's annoying about it in the same breath. When the right answer is “keep doing it by hand, it's only twenty minutes a week”, you'll get that too — even though it makes us less money.

£650 a day · £395 a half day · travel included within two hours of us · excludes VAT

Not sure it's worth a whole day?

Then don't book one. Ring us, describe the problem in five minutes, and we'll tell you whether there's a day's work in it. If there isn't, we'll point you at the thing that would actually help.
